Intro

This is a blog to show the stages of my beautiful Husky Astro's life. She is 100% cute and i'll be uploading pictures and videos of her :)

There is another dog as well in my house hold. A sweet black lab called Libby who is 5 years old. She is good with dogs and loves to say hello to people all the time. We are hoping that she will take a mothering role with Astro as we think that Libby will be a good teacher as she is very well behaved.

On this blog i will also share how i train her and the things that work well with her. If you have serious problems with a dog you have, take advice as you see it, but rememeber all dogs are different and if it is really that serious, search for some one to help you.

I do have a youtube channel for Astro. Where i have videos of her, my user name is Lunastanton. If you like SUBSCRIBE :)

Just to let you know, Libby is the family dog. Astro is my pet dog. Astro will not have upper hands with Libby and they will both be treated equaly as we as humans are the Alphas of the pack.

Finally home

Astro came home on tuesday this week. I know it is now friday and i didn't forget to post a blog. I just havent had time. The part three days of my life have devoted to Astro.

So, to make up for the fact that i havent blogged, heres a sort of... diary.

Day 1 - Tuesday

Its two hours drive home from where we picked her up. So of corse, naturally we where expecting her to howl and cry etc. as it was the first time she had left her old pack and her first time outside (i carried her as she hasn't had vaccination) she didn't try to get off me and we didn't even here her breathing she was that quite in the back.

We put her in the open boot of the car in an open top cardboard box that was big enough for her to stand up in and move in. We put news paper at the bottom in case she went to the toilet and we rubbed a blanket on her mum to get the mothers scent and put it in the box with her.

When we got home she had to be introduced to the family dog, libby. Libby did not like her, in fact she was petrified of her. She ran away from her and started dribbling bucket loads out of pure fear. You could see it her eyes.

Astro was fine and was loving, all she did was nibble a bit, but thats expected as she is teething.

She likes to climb onto my lap and rest her head on me.

At night, i put her in her crate which i had prepared for her. She did not like it, she howled all night and would not stop if left it. We didn't give in though as if we did this could create problems in the future. Me and my mum slept down stairs and got next to no sleep at all.

Day 2 - Wednesday

After a very long night, I let her eat her breakfast and have a play. On the internet it says that huskys can be funny eaters and dont eat a lot. Astro is not like that at all. She wolfs it down, i doubt she chews her food either. I practised taking her food away from her and giving it to her again. Appently this shows that you are alpha as you are in control of what happens with food (feeding is a vital training process, you dont want your dog to be posessive over there food with you either).

Today we tried to put her and libby together, libby hunched into a corner. Me and mum are still confused why she was so fearful. We think it may be because of all the different scents that she had on her of all the other dogs an she is playful.

A few people came and seen her threw the day. She was fine with every one and kept falling asleep all day. Which is proball dew to the fact she was up all night howling. Me and my mate took her and libby for a walk. I had to carry her and not let her touch the floor or go near other dogs (because you dont know if they have had their jabs). She liked it and was a good girl. I was suprised though when she didn't howl or flintch at the sirens. She was fine and ended up falling asleep. She got a lot of attention from passers by.

At night i again put her to bed and went to my room to sleep. My mum ended up telling me to come downstairs to sleep again. We had been trying the technique of 'No!' when she howled, but it just didn't work at all. She kept us awake all night again.

Day 3 - Thursday

She started to go to the bath room in the right place as we keep taking her out. She is getting better and climbing the stairs at the bottom of the garden.

This morning her and libby had a little play and libby wasn't as scared.

Me and my mum took the dogs out. She was a good girl again and seemed to like watching the cars go by, at the moment im not sure thats a good thing though. She got a lot of attention again with even people who looked hard go 'aww how cute!'.

Me and mum had been reading up on what you can do to stop the howling at nght and found that when i leave the room, she some times howls at the door for me. It says on the internet that they feel alone and are fearful. Some thing you can do is to put a clock that ticks loud and put it in the crate (WARNING!: they could chew the clock and really hurt themselves, because of this we didn't try this). We noticed that she has a thing for my trousers. My mum suggested that i put them in the cage at night to try and compfort her.

Day 4 - Friday (today)

It was amazing, i was woken up.. by my mum! for the first night here she didn't howl once! All because i let her sleep on my trousers. She slept like an angel.

This morning she was a lot more livly. She went to the toilet outside like a clever girl. I think the sleep did her good.

She played with libby a bit more today. This is good as they will have to live for each other for a long time.

She still loves sleeping on my trousers and she is right at this moment sleeping in her crate.

:)
